Happy Feet for Seniors · Older adults and retirees
Music to move to, in good company.
Music-and-movement sessions for older adults, at an unhurried pace. Gather a few friends and I will plan sessions for your group, or enquire on behalf of your club or centre. No music or dance experience needed.
Why come
A reason to move, sing, and laugh together.
You do not need to have played an instrument or danced before. You only need to enjoy music and be willing to join in.
We listen, we move to what we hear, we sing, and we make a little music of our own. The piano is played live, so the music can slow down, wait, or pick up with the group.
At your pace.
Activities can be done seated or standing, and there is nothing to memorise. You join in as much as is comfortable for you that day.
Songs you know, and some you do not.
Tell me the music your group loves. Familiar songs sit alongside new pieces, all played live at the piano.
Better together.
Sessions are made for a group: moving in time with a partner, singing in a circle, sharing a joke when it goes wrong.
These are music sessions for enjoyment and learning. They are not therapy or medical treatment.
How it works
Bring your own group.
- Gather your groupAround five friends is enough to begin. Larger groups from clubs, centres, and community organisations are welcome too.
- Tell me about youHow many people, what music you enjoy, and anything I should plan for, such as mobility or hearing.
- Choose a timeA single session to try it, or a regular series. We agree the days and the place together.
- Come and enjoyWear comfortable clothes and flat shoes. Everything else is provided.
A session
What we might do.
- A gentle warm-up to music.
- Walking, tapping, or swaying to a pulse, and noticing when the music changes.
- Singing together.
- Simple movement games in pairs and as a group.
- Quiet listening to close.
- WhereIn Aljunied, or at your own centre or venue for larger groups.
- FeesQuoted for your group, based on its size and the number of sessions.
Who leads it
Pianist. Educator. Dancer.
Every session is led in person by Khew Yun Zhen, founder of The Piano Odyssey and Happy Feet.
She brings together an established career in piano performance and teaching, close to three decades of dance experience, and ongoing professional training in Dalcroze education. The music is played live at the piano and shaped to the group in the moment, so the session follows the people in the room.
