Happy Feet for Schools & Educators

Music the whole class can feel.

Workshops for children and teens in schools and arts organisations, and practical sessions for educators who want to bring movement into their music teaching. Each one is tailored to your students, your aims, and your space.

Why movement

Understanding that starts in the body.

Pulse, metre, and phrase are easier to understand once you have moved to them. A class that has stepped a rhythm and felt where a phrase lands brings that to its singing, playing, and listening.

Every student takes part at once. No one waits for a turn at an instrument, and no prior training is needed.

What I offer

Three kinds of session.

  • Student workshops

For primary-age children through to teens. A single workshop to open up a topic, or a short series that builds across several weeks.

Sessions can support what students are already working on: a choir preparing repertoire, a band learning to stay together, a class meeting rhythm and metre for the first time.

  • Sessions for educators

For music teachers, early-childhood educators, and instrumental teachers. You experience the approach as a participant first, then look at how each activity was built and how to adapt it for your own students.

These are practical workshops in my own Dalcroze-inspired practice. They are not a Dalcroze qualification, and there is no Happy Feet teacher certification at present.

  • Arts organisations and community events

Workshops for arts organisations, community groups, and family events, where children and adults take part together.

Who leads it

Pianist. Educator. Dancer.

Every session is led in person by Khew Yun Zhen, founder of The Piano Odyssey and Happy Feet.

She brings together an established career in piano performance and teaching, close to three decades of dance experience, and ongoing professional training in Dalcroze education. The music is played live at the piano and shaped to the group in the moment, so the session follows the people in the room.
